Pervasive computing envisions a world where each person shares thousands of highly distributed, but interconnected, computing devices; where computational power is invisible — so ordinary, so natural, and so commonplace that people use it, even depend on it, without consciously acknowledging its presence. Recent advances in computing power, storage, speech recognition, and, most notably, wired and wireless networks, are rapidly bringing this vision into full realization.
The Pervasive Technology Labs Fellows Program is broadening the involvement of Indiana University faculty and staff in creating this vision, and in support of the research ongoing within Pervasive Technology Labs at Indiana University. In 2004, five Fellows were selected to the program and have commenced their year-long collaboration with the six Pervasive Technology Labs in Bloomington and Indianapolis. For 2004-05, we will select additional Fellows to continue this program.
The Fellows Program is designed to further advance research and application of information technology in a world where computing, telecommunications, and information are truly pervasive. Additionally, the Program will help to create and promote the workforce opportunities needed to attract and retain highly trained Indiana graduates.
Awards will be made for the coming academic year (2004-05). Current Fellows may apply for renewed funding on an annual basis |
